The Cambridge Rocket Club managed to fly it’s season opener on Saturday May 2nd<\/sup> after being postponed twice previously. The weather conditions were less than ideal with cold temperatures and gusty winds. We even experienced a brief snow flurry during the morning. Despite the conditions, a very hearty group of 19 people showed up for this semi-winter launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenging conditions meant that the club launch equipment was not brought out to the field and for the second time this season we declared a Mini-launch. For this launch and all future launches we instituted a Launch Flight Card system to organize and record our launches. We had flight cards at the field for members to fill out and hand in when they were ready to fly. Some members printed their own flight cards at home and had them filled out prior to coming to the field. One member typed in his name and membership number on his flight card and mass produced them simplifying his sign-in procedures<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We managed to fly everything from “A” to “G” engines including multi-stage and cluster models as well as models with dual deployment and on board technology. By the end of the day, we flew 27 model rockets and burned 32 model rocket engines. The theoretical impulse burned at the launch was 1,040 neutons. Refer to attached reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As good time was had by all and I thank those that showed up for this launch. Our next launch is only 6 days away on Saturday May 9th. The themes for this launch are Big Rockets and Multi-Stage rockets. We will also be celebrating the 25th<\/sup> anniversary of the Cambridge Rocket Club. Hopefully our founder Gary White will be able to join us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
